Climbing Another Mountain

Leading up to last weekend was probably the most scared I’d ever been in Korea. I was terrified. One of the teachers at my school invited me to see Seoraksan, one of the most famous mountains in Korea. He invited me when it was somewhat warm, so of course I agreed. Then, leading up to the weekend, the weather got increasingly colder. I was scared! Then, someone mentioned it would be about -30c. That’s when I started becoming terrified! Eventually, after much worrying and preparing, the weekend finally arrived.

Pohang Snowstorm!

I started to write this blog the other day, but it came out lame and boring. “Ok” I said to myself, “This isn’t working!” I erased what I had written and said I would come back to it later. Now, it’s later and I still am having trouble. So, I think I’m going to just go for it, hope it’s not too boring, and let that be that. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen? It’s not like you’ll stop READING it right?  I figured as much.

Let's start off this entry by telling you about our EPIK dinner in Daegu on the Wednesday before Christmas. It was something we were all looking forward to because not only were we going to see people we haven’t seen since August, but we were also going to get a huge yummy feast! Then about two days before the dinner we got an email from the Gyeongbuk coordinator that all the people who lived in “these” cities weren’t allowed to come to the dinner because there was a break out of Foot and Mouth disease and their cities were being quarantined. There was a list of the cities under the email, but thankfully our great city of Pohang was not among the others. On the Wednesday, our schools let us off work a little early and we all met at the bus terminal. The dinner was great! It was everything I expected it to be. Delicious food and hanging out and catching up with “old” friends. We didn’t stay ridiculously long in Daegu because it was a Wednesday night and we all had work the next morning.

What I was thinking - "hmm....Sam keeps complaining because I don't have any Christmas decorations up. And I don't want any because it's a waste of money. But I do want someplace special to put my Christmas presents!"

Because I think my partner is busy watching movies, I’ll go ahead and get this out of the way. So, for the past two weeks we’ve been doing a lot of the same thing. And that same thing is snowboarding! So, I’ll just start at the beginning, give a quick rundown of events, and call it a day. Please forgive us for being so lazy at this blogging thing. You try taking time out of your busy day to write about your busy day and insert pictures of your busy day and sometimes create a movie of your busy day. Not so easy, huh?

As you can see from the last post, our weekends hadn’t been living up to previous ones. We got lazy – we had no where to go. The weather was cold, which makes us want to stay indoors. Our lives are so tough you know. This weekend, much of the same thing: we were tired, the weather was cold. One thing was different though, we had someplace to go. Of course, it was no big deal. Just a normal activity when the weather gets too cold. But I’ll get to that later.

SO! These past two weekends are going to share an entry this time. Why, you ask? Well its because for the first time it seems like, we didn’t have as much excitement and adventure as in the past weekends.

Weekend 1: We hadn’t made any plans all week so it looked like it was going to be a quiet time in good ol’Pohang. Courtney was really set on going somewhere, anywhere, and I was teased with the rumor that there was an ice skating rink in Pohang. So, we pulled a Cheusok, and we split up! She took a trip to visit a few of our friends in a neighboring city, and I recruited our friend Brandon for a day of exploring.
