Last weekend was a weekend I had been looking forward to for a very long time. It was supposed to be the weekend that I went to Thailand with my school. Of course, that trip was canceled due to problems we won’t discuss. But I didn’t let it bother me for too long, because soon it became the weekend of Mudfest, a festival on the west coast of Korea all about playing in the mud! I paid my money, got a seat on the bus, and then I found out about a climbing trip up to Seoraksan! Sweet! I changed my plans, and was all set to go climbing on one of the most famous mountains in Korea….for a whole weekend!

Just a random Weekend....
Top of the Hike |
Friday was a normal Friday. I went rock climbing, I ate some dinner with friends, we hung out a bit….you know…normal stuff. But, since I had to wake up early the next morning I went home at a decent hour.
Saturday I met up with some people from the climbing gym. One of the girls I climb with wanted to show me around Gyungyu a bit, so she invited some others and we went exploring! The first stop, we hiked up a mountain to a stone statue thing. Then we sat there for about 30-45 minutes just talking and eating the snacks everyone had brought along.

Insubong Climbing Trip
A few weekends ago I had a weekend climbing adventure! Saturday morning I went with Tony and MinJung to climb at a place near Pohang. He had read on Koreaontherocks.com some other foreigners were going to be climbing there. Apparently a woman is writing a book about climbing spots around Korea, so she goes to the spots with her photographer and documents the location! It was pretty neat watching him get set up to take the pictures. While I was there, everyone starting talking about Insubong, the climbing place I was going to the next day. It’s a place right outside of Seoul that’s pretty popular for climbers. But apparently it’s pretty crowded on the weekends. Tons of climbers from all around are all climbing these multi-pitch routes….and things get busy quick. Though they kind of scared me a bit, I wasn’t about to back down. I was just going to make sure I was extra careful!
